ACL 2021: Ideas for Lightning Delay

In trying to think through where I would go if the Fest kicked everyone out, I mapped a few of the places that are closest to the Park:

From the Lady Bird gate by Austin High:

• Deep Eddy Cabaret – 16 minutes
• Mean Eyed Cat/El Arroyo/Donn’s Depot – 20 minutes (but Donn’s doesn’t open until 2)
• Hula Hut – 46 minutes

From the East Gate:

• Chuy’s – 6 minutes
• Baby A’s, Ski Shores, Green Mesquite, Barton Springs Saloon, etc.
• Carpenter’s Hall – 14 minutes (assume they would allow folks into their bar?)
• Butler Pitch and Putt for beers? – 16 minutes
• El Alma/Terry Blacks – 18 minutes
• Shoal Creek Saloon – 30 minutes
• Hold Out Brewing – also 30 minutes

From the Barton Springs West Gate:

• Salt Traders – 14 minutes
• Chinatown – 27 minutes

Personally, I think the move is to go to Mean Eyed Cat.  Feels like the whole Fest will pour out of the gate trying to get to all of the Barton Springs restaurants as fast as they can, while if you go out the Austin High gate, but then keep going past Deep Eddy (where everyone else will stop) you could bop over to Mean Eyed in 20 minutes and get out of the crowd.  We'll see!
