I don't think I have the ability to classify this music. Arum Rae has one EP out and its five songs jump between robo-rap ("2001," made me think of Kanye's 808's and Heartbreak) and jumpin' jive pop (Something's Happening to Me) and a harmonic little love song (Warranted Queen). It is all electronic, beats and loops, but with a relatively simple sound (except for the auto-tune on that "2001" song). She has a really nice voice. Here is Warranted Queen:
Now contrast that with 2001:
Wikipedia has nothing about her, and her website has little to no background. It sounds like she was with a band previously, called White Dress, that was from Austin. I'm seeing that she toured with Gary Clark, Jr. and then recorded at Public Hifi studios here in Austin. The older singles she has posted to Spotify are extremely stripped down acoustic songs. Just her and the guitar.
