Saturday.

Thoughts:  Weird.  I thought this was a repeat.  Who was I thinking of?  Sloppy Jane!  Two years ago we had Sloppy Jane and she was totally unpleasant!  These dudes sound like The 1975 mixed with Kings of Leon.

I love Australia.  I think that we all have a romantic idea of it because of the movies and whatnot, but there are just so many things that make it weird and cool.  As an example, the fact that they have a state just called Western Australia.  The states in Australia are as follows: Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria, Northern Territory, South Australia, and Western Australia.  You have three with names that make sense for the history of the place, and then you have three that are just directional.  And yet, for reasons, one is "Territory," and the other two disagree on how to state the direction.  Not "southern" and "western," not "south" and "west."  Just amazing levels of goofiness.  Also, Western Australia is the second-largest subdivision of a country in the world, with 975k square miles, just behind Sakha in Russia.  Bigger than Greenland.  Fascinating.

Anyway, second Aussie band in a row.  I guess Saturday is Australians day at ACL Fest.  The singer and drummer met in high school, and were previously in a grunge band called Sicchino.  They moved to Perth to attend the University of Western Australia, where they met the guitarist and bassist.  Their first show was in the lead singer's dad's backyard.  Their first EP came out in 2017 and the initial single was certified as platinum.  "Feeding the Family" has 59.9 million streams.

A little grungy, a little psych-ey, a lot of sweet grooving.  Around now, they won the Triple J Unearthed competition, which is like the Australian version of, uh, do we still have radio stations in America?  I dunno.  It was a big deal, I guess.  The end of that song starts to sound like some of the Chili Peppers guitar freakout stuff from Californication.  Yummy.  Anyway, their first album popped off in 2020, just in time to breakout with a huge new sound and then get it all yanked out from under them by COVID.  "Booster Seat" blew up, winning song of the year at the 2021 ARIA awards and later reaching seven times platinum.  110 million streams.

I don't know why, but it really affected me to see them hugging each other right as the bridge started.  Hugs are the best.  As are huge, blocky Volvo station wagons from back in the day.  Hell yeah. Oh, and a nice song as well.

After that, they released 2022's Here Comes Everybody, which was huge in Australia.  The first ever artist to have six different songs in on Triple J Hottest 100 countdown.  2025 has seen the release of their new disc, If That Makes Sense, and it is honestly more enjoyable stuff.  The stream counts aren't really there yet, but I dig it anyway.  The top song for now is "All the Noise" with 5.9 million streams.

a) dope ride; b) nice new haircut; c) definitely a poppier direction than before.  But it is fun stuff.  This is what sounded to me like the 1975, were the new tracks.  Let's go with the Aussies jamming good rock and roll tunes for us!  Oi Oi Oi!
