Tito's Tent.

Thoughts:  I sometimes do this for curiosity's sake with lower tier artists.  here is what the search bar brings up on Spotify as you enter the name:

  • Midnight - the Taylor Swift album
  • Midnight (space) - "Midnight Rider" by the Allman Brothers.  Great tune.
  • Midnight n - Midnight North, a Bay Area band with a Lesh in the band.
  • Midnight na - Midnight Marauders, the Tribe Called Quest album.
  • Midnight nav - finally, this band.  Weird.

Ah, and it is probably because only five of his songs even have stream counts on them.  No one is searching for this.  Even a google doesn't grab him - apparently there are Nike Jordan shoes called the midnight navy.  Hahaha.  Even when I search for midnight navy band, I get a bunch of people talking about a watch band for the Apple Watch that comes in midnight navy color.  Jeez.  I guess we just have to go with the Spotify bio for background.

This is singer/songwriter, producer, and saxophonist Francisco Rosales, based in Austin.  he apparently plays things called chicano indie soul, alternative r&b, and psychedelic bedroom pop.  I get nothing else about his background.  Even on his bandcamp page, it has his name and Austin, and then has no songs for you to listen to.  What is up with this guy?  His top song is all synths all the time, and throws up 6,868 streams on Spotify.

I saw an article the other day about how ACL paid $28.1 million to the artists in a given year (I forget which year).  That seems really low to me - if those big artists are getting millions each then are jenky little people like this just doing it for free to get their name out there?  I can't imagine this show being worth much to ACL, because no one is buying a ticket to see this, more just filler for the poster so that they don't have gaps.  Because this is not anything especially necessary.  I mean, he's on the poster and I'm just a schlub with an internet connection and a keyboard, but there is no need to get there for the noon show on Friday if this is what is on tap.
