Billboard's Hot Rap Songs Chart Interactive

This is the coolest freaking thing on the Internet.  An interactive chart that shows the top ten hip hop songs on the Hot Rap Songs Chart from Billboard since the late 80's, with a cool visual of the songs rising to the top, starting at #1, or doing their best to summit the peak only to fall back down. Mesmerizing.

  1. Go to this link.
  2. Pull the date scroller at the bottom all the way over to the left.  (Me, Myself & I!!  Preach it!)
  3. Pop some popcorn.
  4. Watch those hits stream in and listen to the goodness.
I just spent about 30 minutes with this as my background music, and it is glorious.  The people who took the time to build that thing are worthy of any and all praise.  They should win the Nobel Peace Prize, a Grammy, a Tony or two, a Papal blessing, and an entire Buzzfeed listicle about them.

You can also click on a particular artists and see what they did over time.  For example, Jay Z has a very interesting record.  Loads of songs pop into the top ten, but only four get to #1 - Jigga my N****, Run this Town, N***** in Paris, and Holy Grail.  So all of those "masterpieces" people talk about from his early days, before he became a vapid shoe and lifestyle brand salesman, apparently never actually got acclaim.  Love it.

Enjoy.
