ACL 2016: Map

Ladies and gents, a new map for the Festival has been released!  Can you feel the cartographic excitement?!?!  I sure as hell can!

Lame jokes aside, the map is interesting in that a few real changes have happened this year.  The ones I can notice from a review of the map:
  • The Rock Island stage is gone.  Which is AWESOME.  That stage was always such a bitch to deal with because the food and beer hall were wedged right there along with it, and if you ever had a band with any fans try to play that stage (Lumineers, Moon Taxi, Dwight Yoakam) you had a crazy crush of people, and no one could move and it was brutal.  I remember when the Lumineers were huge and playing that stage, there was a poor dude trying to drive a cart full of kegs through there and no one could move to let him through.  More people were trying to pour into the area, and none of us that were in there could move or get out.  Sucked so bad that we just ditched seeing the band and went somewhere else.
  • New stage.  So, instead of Rock Island stage, you now have a new stage (Cirrus Logic is the sponsor, formerly called the Zilker stage if you have an old schedule printed out like me) that will be just to the left of the main entrance, kind of aiming at the main stage on the west end of the park.  I'm not sure how that is going to work when both the Miller Lite and the Cirrus are jamming - seems like they're aimed right at each other and may have some interference?  For example, when M83 is playing the Cirrus, and Band of Horses is on the Miller Lite (Friday night at 7), I'd fully expect for both of those bands to be pretty cranked up to 11.  Hopefully someone smarter than me has already tested that setup.
  • The southeast corner of Zilker Park appears to be open to people now, instead of just being the artist and VIP area.  That is cool - more room is a welcome addition.  And shaded room too, which is tight.
  • The Kiddie Limits stage has been moved from in between the Miller Lite Stage and the food court, and is now over in that newly opened tree grove on Barton Springs, near the main entrance.  They will apparently have a "family friendly" entrance over there, and I can't tell if you can use that entrance to access the rest of the park or not.  If so, then it might be worth going in to that gate, which will be the first you see if you are walking west on Barton Springs, and avoiding the big lines at the main gate?
  • Also over in that same corner, there are two new things on the map
    • Miller Lite Game Hall.  This is apparently an area where "you and your friends can challenge each other with vintage arcade classics and modern favorites."  WTF?  People, if you are going to a music festival, then go to a music festival.  Please do not spend $300 on a ticket to go see music and then spend all day playing PacMan in a tent.
    • Wine Down, which the website calls ACL's brand new wine bar.  Sounds terrible to me, but maybe a warm glass of red will hit the spot on a nice 98 degree day!
Hooray for new maps!  Let's do this!
