Noah Cyrus

One Liner: Miley's little sister

Both Weekends.  Friday.

Thoughts:  A few years back, a friend put me on to her top single, and it is a solidly wonderful track.  Running back through the whole catalog shows that she has some other good stuff back there, but also some less great bits here and there.  Some of her earlier music has an almost shrill voice in it, whereas her best stuff has a raspy tone that sounds familiar to anyone who has listened to the big sister in the past.

While she hasn't had the career of big sister Miley, she's done some acting and charted with a few songs.  She was the voice of Ponyo in the anime movie Ponyo (which I recall being cute), and had minor roles in some TV shows.  She's the fifth kid of Billy Ray and Tish Cyrus (who have apparently filed for divorce from each other multiple times), and she definitely has the resemblance.

For music, she's making pop music that has won her some good fans.  She got to open for Katy Perry on a 2017 tour.  I'm sure big sister puts in a good word for her!  Many of her big tunes are collaborations with a male singer, which is interesting.  And she created a second version of her big hit to add Leon Bridges to the mix (which sounds as dope as you would expect).  That big song is "July," with 602.9 million streams, from 2020's The End of Everything album.
Lovely damn song.  Just perfect the whole way through, from the simple guitar to the voice to the lyrics.  Even the whistle hits just right.

Her catalog is all singles for the first several years, until the 2018 EP Good Cry.  The top track from that album features a collaboration with Gallant (who came to ACL a few years back).  "Mad at You," with 37.1 million streams.
Huh, when I had heard that one earlier, I figured it was another Leon Bridges track!  Okay tune.  2020's The End of Everything, with "July," was the next album (although 8 songs and 24 minutes sure smells EP-ish to me).  Some tracks sound like rap, some sound like straight pop, others are folky.  She's all over the map.  Her 2021 EP with PJ Harding has a good tune on it - "Dear August" - with 43.2 million streams.
Really nice harmonies on that one.  Is she about to release another folky ballad called "It's September" next to keep with the month songs?  After that EP, a few new singles, but no new album.  Maybe one is on the way soon?

I like most of this stuff - I'd probably take a chance and go see her do the show.
