Kat Dahlia

One Liner:  Cuban-American girl doing angry pop and rapping some.
Wikipedia Genre:  Alternative R&B, Latin Pop, hip hop
Home: Miami

Poster Position: 26

Weekend Two Only.

Thoughts:  I think this is my last review of people at the bottom of the poster who aren't kiddie or gospel.  And yet she has a song with over a hundred million streams!  How is she down here at line 26?  Nope, never heard of that track - pretty generic love song pop stuff with a strong voice.  "I Think I'm in Love."
Actually, lyrically, the verses are kind of good, describing that difficult feeling of falling for someone and feeling nervous and freaking out.  And her getting insulted, telling him "fuck you," and yet still thinking of him as her husband, is a good line.  But I don't need the chorus saying that she thinks she's in love eighty billion times.  Kind of a semi-rap vibe.

Also, somehow, I've picked another person in a row who sings at least part of her lyrics in Spanish.  Dangit.  I'm gonna need to do GNR next just to make sure I don't mix up the next artists with the current one.

Real name is Katriana Sandra Huguet, and she used to go by Kat Hue.  Cuban-American, from Miami.  Her producer suggested her name because he thought it was both soft and beautiful, as well as with a dark undertone.  She began rapping at age 8, and then using YouTube instrumentals to make songs as a teen.

One album - 2015's My Garden - which seems like a long time since releasing an album to still be on the ACL lineup.  Maybe she has a big album coming out soon that she will play at the Fest.  Wikipedia says that she had a new album ready for release in 2017, but that "did not eventuate."  I'd call the general genre of this album angry pop - kind of a yell/rapping style with some singing mixed in.  Here is her second most popular track, which really drives that feeling home, "Gangsta."  22.4 million streams.
Kind of like a weak Eminem who wrote his song in 20 seconds while asleep.  I don't care for any of this - have been through the whole catalog of singles and the one album a few times, and although there are some kind of cool underlying tracks, showing slices of reggae or bossanova or reggaeton, its not great music or great rap.
