SuperDuperKyle

One Liner: indie-ish rapper who sounds alternatively like G-Eazy and Drake
Wikipedia Genre: Hip hop, R&B

Home: Ventura, California

Poster Position: 6
Slot: ?

Thoughts: Confusingly, the ACL poster says that this guy's name is SUPERDUPERKYLE. But if you search for that on Spotify, it doesn't exist, the guy's name there is just Kyle. Wikipedia says that his name is Kyle Harvey, but that he is also known as "Kyle, K.i.D., SuperDuperKyle, and King Wavy."  I think he should stick with the last one.

He's got one massively popular track, that I had actually heard a few times before, and which features Lil Yachty.  "iSpy" has freaking 207 million streams (versus his next most popular at 11.7 million), so its a no doubt massive hit.
On that one, he sounds more like Drake than G-Eazy, but stick with me here and you'll hear it, I promise.  But, great beat, fun chorus (albeit a little creepy that he is intending to hit on a girl because she doesn't get that many social media likes so his plan is to go after her because her self esteem might be lower, but maybe I'm just reading too much into this because I have daughters that are wanting to use social media and I'm terrified).  And a creepy ass video with those smaller bodies under their adult-sized heads. But, its just a happy song - fun vibe and good jam.  I like it.

But, that track is just a single from 2016, it isn't found on either of his albums - 2015's Smyle or 2013's Beautiful Loser - so let's look at those albums.  The more recent one, Smyle, has a handful of good tracks.  "Really? Yeah!" is a pretty solid track that includes a funny interlude where a girl tells him to go fix his snaggle tooth.  The cover of the album has a smile with a gold tooth kind of perched up over on the left side in an odd spot, and after looking at some photos of the guy, yes, it looks like he really does have an extra tooth hanging out up there.  I was going to show you "Remember Me?" because it has more streams (7.2 million), but I actually like "Really? Yeah!" better,
I feel like there will be no better song at the festival to jump up and down to and yell along with exuberantly with all of the whacked out children-on-drugs.  I'm preemptively pumped for that moment.  This album definitely has more hits than the older album, which mostly has all songs in the millions of streams, but is definitely less listened to than Smyle.  I'll show you the second most popular track from that one, called "Keep It Real" that has 8.7 million streams.
Ironic that he claims to not sound like Drake, on this song, and yet he pretty much made a Drake song where he raps like G-Eazy and then sings like Drake and in the video he looks out into the distance pensively just like Drake.  C'mon.  And he can get cheesy, like on the pop-ish "Just a Picture" about paying more attention to your Instagram than real life, over a Katy Perry beat and with Kehlani singing the hooks.  That being said, I like the dude.  These tunes are generally pretty good and I bet the show would be a lot of fun.

Recommend?  Warmer than lukewarm yes.
