Omah Lay

One Liner: Nigerian R&B guy with a Biebs co-sign

Wikipedia Genre: Afrobeats, R&B
Home:  Nigeria

Poster Position: 14

Both Weekends. Saturday.

Thoughts:  Oh good, some AutoTune!  I was missing the sweet, sweet sounds of the robot voices!  His top tune has Bieber on it, so I guess he has a connection with the Biebs.  Haha - his name is Stanley.  That really was the perfect name for that character in The Office, just killed me through his name before he even made those classic faces.  Stanley Omah Didia is from Nigeria, where he started a rap group under the stage name Lil King (so much better than Frito Lay!).  Once he converted his name and sound to this poppy Afrobeats R&B stuff, he was named Next Rated by a Nigerian awards thing called the Headies.

Two EPs and an album - 2020's unfortunately named Get Layd, 2020's What Have We Done, and then 2022's Boy Alone.  This isn't really for me - slight little funkiness to it, but otherwise just R&B with some African tones rolling underneath.  "attention" is the one with Bieber, and by far his top song.  47.9 million streams.
Man, the Biebs is still out here in backwards ball caps like a skinny Fred Durst.  And those super-wide leg pants are awful.  Nothing special about the tune - feels like some Drake joint from one of those recent forgettable albums.  A 2020 single has 25.3 million streams as well - this is "Bad Influence."
Nah man.  Feels so similar to the earlier tune!  I mean, his voice sounds good when he isn't Autotuning it, but I just don't get anything special or memorable from these tunes.

Cool that he is coming from Nigeria to hang out with us, but I'll leave this show up to you.
