Frances Forever

One Liner: Bedroom pop singer with a viral TikTok hit

Wikipedia Genre: Bedroom pop, indie pop.
Home: Baltimore

Poster Position: Late Addition
Both Weekends.
12:50 pm at the Honda Stage

Thoughts:  Remember that Juno soundtrack?  Some of these songs remind me of those songs on the Juno soundtrack that were kind of cutesy and clever.  Also cutesy and clever, the times when their lyrics don't match the tone of the song at all, like in "eat the rich" when they sweetly sings for the listener to "go suck a dick."

Two EPs, no real albums, with 2018's pockets and 2021's paranoia party.  One track from that new EP, which was released as a single in 2020, has cracked the code though.  60.2 million streams for "space girl."
Good little low-fi groove.  Sounds like a Kurt Vile song, or maybe Courtney Barnett or something when it kicks off.  The bassline is dope.  Big Napoleon Dynamite vibes in the video.  When they see each other at the paranoia party, I got a big dumb goofy grin on my face.  Cute song.

Wikipedia says that the song was a viral hit on - GUESS WHAT? - TikTok in 2020.  They chose the stage name because of their first name (actually Frances) plus as an homage to a Mitski song called "Francis Forever."  Frances also says that she grew up on Taylor Swift and cites her as their musical inspiration.  Also, this: "Garrett is pansexual and non-binary and uses singular they pronouns. Garrett is currently majoring in music technology at Clark University."  Frances just always makes me think of PeeWee Herman's nemesis, and the way Paul Ruebens always said that name.

The top track from the earlier EP is the not -very-nicely-titled "fuck u."  1.1 million streams.
She's so sad.  Don't love that song.  it is okay, but I prefer the more fleshed out sound of the second EP over the less-robust sounds on that old EP.

Probably wouldn't be seeing anything at 12:50 on Saturday, but if I were to choose someone to see right then, it would be Sir Woman anyway.  Frances is pretty good though!
