Weekend Two Only.

Thoughts: Great cover on her album - she's in a track suit looking like she just finished a workout, but she's about to light a whole packs-worth of cigarettes in her mouth.  The tunes are interesting in their varied styles - for a while I thought this was pop rock type stuff, but now it shows more of an alt. country thing like Kelly Willis with a heavier, bangier drum presence (and strangely, organ.  Lots of organ).  After some more listens, it looks like that is a function of time - her first album (2014's I Will Not Be Afraid) was folky, country stuff, heavy on strummed acoustic guitar, and then her more recent album (2018's LONER) crosses over into a rock posture.

"More of the Same," from the new album, is her top track on Spotify with 2.5 million streams.
A clever diss track that sort of sounds like Jenny Lewis.  In fact, that is a good comparison on several of these songs - "Getting To Me" also sounds like Jenny Lewis.  Lyrically, she's clever and funny.  "Soul No. 5" has a funky groove to it that kinda rules.

Apparently her schtick is to wear entirely red outfits when she performs - so the red track suit look is part of the persona.  When she was an alt country girl, she wore all black and white, but now that she's become the funny rocker, she's going for all red all the time.

I'll give you the top track from her first album too, although I would expect that she is done with those wistful country moves and is going to make her whole show about the new party-time Caroline.  This is "Blood on Your Bootheels," with 1.3 million streams.
Kind of a Bob Dylan feel to it - wry observations spit out quickly over a basic shuffle.

I dig both sides of her persona.  Both solid in their own way, I'd be interested in checking it out.
