Fickle Friends

One Liner: Fun synth-driven pop in the neighborhood of HAIM from the 80's.
Wikipedia Genre: Indie pop, synth-pop
Home: England

Poster Position: 27

Day: Friday at 4:45.
Weekend One Only.

Thoughts: My very first instinct is pop HAIM.  Kind of like that band Aces from last year's ACL.  Shiny production, very fun sounding synth-driven pop.  The band is from Brighton, in England, and was formed in 2013.  One lady (lead singer and keyboardist) and then a pack of dudes in the background.  Also hearing some Paramore in their top single.  This is "Swim," which boasts more than double the next most listened to track on Spotify, as 15.7 million streams.
Highly fun poppy tune.  The rest of their music is similar, which is fun for a few tunes, and then starts to wear thin after a while.  You can only have so much perfectly overjoyed synth pop in your ears.

The funny thing is that if you google the band name, you end up with all these articles about Frenemies and mean girls and how to deal with back stabbing assholes in the world.  But when you can hunt down an article about them and their formation, they seem likeable.  And lookee there, they name check Paramore as an influence for "Swim."  I'm freaking good - I didn't even read that article before I wrote that intro.

Only one album in their catalog - 2018's You Are Someone Else.  So I can't go back deep into their catalog, but I'll give you one other, the currently most popular track on Spotify, "Glue" with 7.8 million streams.
Once again, extremely fun song.  If you don't want to dance, or at least wiggle a little bit as you dip your shoulders, then you are stone cold.  I think this band seems like the perfect thing to jam out for a short show in the fall.  I might just plan on it.
