Leah Blevins

Thoughts:  Her picture on the Spotify banner and on her only album makes her look like a soft-focus model for Lois Lane or something. Impossibly long eyelashes, sapphire-gin-bottle eyes, and skin so immaculate you'd be scared to bring it around a child.

I used to work with a guy with the last name Blevins. I'm just going to assume that this is his grandaughter. Sadly, no. Her relatives sang in a travelling gospel group called the Harbor Masters, and she and her twin sister Leah learned to sing harmonies at their granddad's knee when they were old enough. Also, this bio says he dad was " a dentist and Elvis impersonator turned state politician." Which is a hell of a combo! Leave it to Kentucky. I bet half of their politicians used to be Elvis impersonators. Can't you see Mitch McConnell's turkey gizzard wildly gyrating to the backbeat of "Burnin' Love"? [urkk, just threw up in my mouth a little bit]. She left Nashville for Dallas to record the new album, but I can't tell if that move is turning permanent or just temporary.

One album, 2021's First Time Feeling, and then a handful of singles and two EPs. Its definitely a country sound overall, but it also has some soul bits - organ chords and background singers and a power voice sending gospel vibes here and there. The title track is the top tune from the album, so we'll go with that one here. 264k streams.
Nice one.  Kind of like a Dixie Chicks love song, or Faith Hill, or one of those that's just unabashed in asking for happiness and love to come rolling back to you.  Although I don't need to see her reach her hands up and almost touch her face anymore.  Good groove in there.

"Where the Goodbye Begins," I keep hearing echoes of Jewel's voice. Great cover of Neil Young's "Heart of Gold" on one of the older EPs. That is her top streamer with 5.8 million streams, but I'd rather play you her originals to show what she has going on. "God Help Me" is the top tune from prior to the album, with 920k streams.
A cheatin' song!  This one has more of a bluesy rock angle - you can see Carrie Underwood breaking this one out.

Pretty good!  Not sure if I'll make the call and go see her, but I liked it!
