One Liner: The Weeknd-lite Poster Position: 20 Thoughts: I was really hoping that this was a Star Wars-themed band, but now I realize that I was thinking of the Jawas. Here is all you need to know about them.
NERDS!!! Sadly, this is not the Jawas. This is, instead, a group with two songs and no Spotify bio. Searching for them on Google brings up a lot of other things, such as the National Warning System, a leading Christian group travel program, a wilderness safari provider in Africa, and this band. Their website combines gag-inducing prose with hard-on-level braggadocio. "NAWAS, dangerously self-assured and shockingly frank, is here to rile you up. Marrying smooth, androgynous R&B vocals with rich instrumentals and tightly woven concept-based lyrics, NAWAS combines timeless sound with the hustle of newcomers." Er, OK, and it only gets worse from there (including something schmaltzy about dirt under your fingernails being a badge of honor). It does kind of have the sound of The Weeknd, hard-edged synth banger music with some falsetto singing action. Here is the first of their tracks, "Wrong," which clocks in a 218k listens on Spotify.
Sure, I get it. Pretty solid beat, not much lyrically, kind of good. Likewise, the second track "So Low," is a little more slow jam and less banger, but has a similar sound anyway. 142k listens on Spotify.
Got that play on words - so low and solo. So clever. Without a full album, I'd normally say that it is hard to give a real opinion of the band, but these two tracks give a pretty good indication of what they have going on. I doubt I'd take the time to go see them, but my guess is they'd put on a pretty danceable show.
