Thoughts: No Wikipedia, so you have to take in the sort of Public Relations gobbledygook about who she is. Apparently raised in a music household (name check Petty, Aretha, and Carole) and influenced by "mesmerizing talents" like Carlile, Fleetwood Mac, Feist, and Raitt, she spent some time in L.A. and then loaded up her Nissan and headed out to Nashville. Another article notes that she grew up in California with a Blues and Rock musician for a father, who was a single dad and moved the family around a lot. She says that a girl heard her singing in the middle school bathroom (who does that?) and the girl was like, you have to go audition for this showcase in Hollywood (who does that, outside of a Disney musical?) where she met her manager.
I think the best comparison I have in my head right now are the newer sounds from Maggie Rogers. Fantastic voice over sweepingly large, pop-centric folky tunes. I've run through the whole catalog and it is really just good music. "Control" sort of bites the violins from "Bittersweet Symphony." "The Hardest Part," a duet with Hadley Kennary is freaking beautiful. "The Vase" is not only beautiful but also lyrically very clever. But some of the new album definitely leans into harder guitars for bits, even though her voice stays pretty over the top.
Her first EP, 2019's Jealous of Birds, has her second biggest streamer. The title track with 5.2 million streams.
