Thoughts:  This fella sounds exactly like what I am about to tell you about him - he was a member of the boy band called Why Don't We, which was also known as WDW (apparently).  They formed in 2016 and took a break in 2022.  I have not heard of the group or any of the members individually, but this very much sounds like an ex-boy band bro doing the solo thing.  Sadly, Wikipedia does not have articles about any of the individual five members.  But their last album was apparently produced in part by a really weird list - Travis Barker, Skrillex, and Timbaland.  Their big tour that was supposed to start after that disc was cancelled following litigation between their current and former managers.

The short blurb about this fella is that he was born in 1999 in Vancouver, WA but grew up in Portland, OR.  He is the main producer of the band and claims to pay over 20 instruments by ear.  He finished in 9th place on Season 14 of American Idol.  One EP - 2023's Dancing in the Dark (which sadly does not contain a cover of that Springsteen song, but instead contains an annoyingly upbeat song called "Nothing Compares to You" that is not a cover of the classic by that name).  The top streamer was his first single and also appeared on that EP.  "Can We Pretend That We're Good."  13.7 million streams.

Something about that scrawny little mustache is killing me.  Song is fine - whatever.  I dislike the effects on his voice at different spots in there.  I doubt I will recall what this guy sings an hour from now.  He has a newer single that has some streaming - 2024's "The Older You Get," which is a funny title for a 24 year old - has 3.7 million.

Man, I just painted a bedroom and I feel him as he squats in that tiny room eyeballing the evil that awaits him inside of that stupid metal can.  I mean, he's as cute as a little button, right?  And his voice is good.  I can't fault him on any of those things, this just feels like a Fray b-side that was destined to be used on Grey's Anatomy or something.  Jennifer Garner is about to use this as the soundtrack for a trailer for her new Christian movie about a mom in a small town.  Oh, I like that painting technique tho.  That looks like a lot more fun than the hours I spent making sure it all looked pristine.  I will also begrudgingly admit that the lyrics to that song are touchingly good.

Lyrics: looking in the mirror and you don’t look the same girls from your past getting new last names high school friends burning out like their cigarettes guess that’s what happens the older you get start to wish you could’ve been 16 forever cause you know your favorite band ain’t getting back together and the nights you don’t remember are the nights that you’ll never forget guess that’s what happens the older you get oh, that’s just the way it goes and oh, that’s just the way it goes life’s going good but you wonder what’s after cause dads moving slower and times moving faster you hug a little tighter and you say the things you never said guess that’s what happens sometimes the cancer goes away and sometimes it don’t so now when your momma calls you always pick up the phone and you talk a little longer cause tomorrow is not a sure bet guess that’s what happens the older you get oh that’s just the way it goes and oh that’s just the way it goes guess that’s what happens the older you get the house you grew up in is now getting sold in a box full of memories that’s worth more than gold you close your eyes one last time in your childhood bed guess that’s what happens, what happens, oh home was a place now home is a person and you’re looking at rings cause you swear that your certain and the best day of your life becomes the day that the two of you met guess that’s what happens the older you get oh, that’s just the way it goes and oh, that’s just the way it goes and oh, that’s just the way it goes and oh, that’s just the way it goes
