Thoughts: I have been interested in checking this one out, because my 16 year old had named this cat as one of the few things on Sunday that was a must see for her.  Which is fascinating.  Because this is the most generic fast-paced EDM stuff on the poster.  I know she and her friends like to mosh and get crazy during the rap stuff, but this just seems too fast and frenetic to really allow for a good mosh.  Then again, I am an old man, so what do I know.

Dominic Matheson is an Aussie who was originally born in the Philippines, and then lived in the outback near Darwin for years, but is based in Melbourne now.  Wikipedia says he is "acclaimed for his distinct style of house music," but this sounds like any other thing out there.  Bass, high hats, synth riffs, some girl singing something stupid - check.  But, he has won two ARIA awards, was nominated for a Grammy in 2024, and was nominated for a Juno award in 2024, so maybe he's just about to take the world by storm with me sitting on the sidelines.

He says he would sneak into clubs at 15 to listen to music, and started obsessively collecting music, before he started trying out the DJ thing.  he borrowed equipment from a friend and started playing at high school parties and whatnot.  He claims that he has actually never owned a pair of decks or any DJ equipment in his life.  Maybe that explains the music...  But after high school he studied design and started making tour posters and merch for bands that came to Australia for a label, while playing clubs on the weekends.  Later, he tried posting some things to the Internet and they blew up.

It is one of those discographies that really sucks to just turn on and let play, because you'll get the same song 8 times in a row.  he literally might only have like ten songs, but his Spotify looks like he has a ton, but it will be "Saving Up" but the Odd Mob Remix, then the LF System Remix, then the Loods Remix, then the original - and that just happens with every track.  "Rhyme Dust" is the top track on stream count, with 128.8 million streams, although it is credited to MK, Dom Dolla, Nic Fanciulli.  No clue which of those dudes is twisting the little fader knob at any given time or pushing the laptop keys.  I'm sure they are all extremely talented at pushing the buttons and twisting the knobs.

Sounds like a Q-Tip sample.  It is fine.  Whatever.  I guess it does fly in the face of my statement above that he always has a faceless lady singing on each track.  Shows what I knows.  "Take It" is his second most streamed tune, with 117.9 million streams.

Sure man.  If you are into the techno thing, I get it.  You can go bop around and dance and all that good stuff to this.  Just doesn't do much for me - might as well be the pause music on a video game that I hear while I am grabbing another drink.
