Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue

Yessir.  This is some funky junk right here.  His most popular Spotify track is an instrumental New Orleans funk jam made for marching down the street and getting sweaty:

This one, Fire and Brimstone, is straight up Lenny Kravitz with a trombone:

I love me some Lenny Kravitz.  Mama Said is the shizz.  Trombone Shorty's sound kind of swerves in between guitar rock (like a Gary Clark Jr. style jam) and then brass heavy funk.  A little rap-type sing-song stuff here and there as well.  More instrumentals going on in here than on a normal album.  He was somewhat of a fixture around Austin after Hurricane Katrina - I think he has moved back since, but for a while he was one of the ex-pats setting up shop here in town while N.O. rebuilt.

Evidence that little man has been doing this for a long dang time:
Look for the little man at about 1:17, puffin' those cheeks for all he's worth, and then solo'ing it out for the crowd.  According to the YouTubes, he was 13 at the time.  Pretty freaking cool, little 13-year-old Shorty.

His music is awesome.  Funky and fun.  While I normally wouldn't get into jazzy little instrumental numbers, if I just sit back and listen to this music, it is really kick ass.  Bring it on.
