Gramatik

Huh.  Groovy electronic music, with a little hint of jazz.  I figured this would be yet another semi-overwrought and earnest band of lads with a female lead singer, but am pleasantly surprised.  Makes me think of a Volkswagen commercial or a modern hotel lobby in Portland.  If it did not have hip-hop style beats added to it, I think this would be jazzy muzak of the worst order.  But with those beats added in, this is very enjoyable instrumental groove.

Best one I heard of the pack is The Prophet, which just takes a slice of Marvin Gaye and loops it over a beat for two and a half minutes. Absolutely perfect song to be playing in the chic, modern cocktail lounge in the bottom of a W Hotel while a blonde guy with Beiber hair makes you a wheat-grass-absinthe foam.

While I Was Playin' Fair is his top song Spotify track:

So Much for Love (an actual video, versus all of the still pictures on these other ones):

Either Spotify is wrong, or this guy (Denis) put out about 7 albums this year.  Which would be insane, unless he just has 10 slightly different beats that he slows down or speeds up each time and then adds in improv jazz bits on each track, which could be possible.  According to his Twitter page, he is a "part-time musician and a full-time comedian so never take my music seriously."  Huh.  He is apparently very into the weed, and got kicked out of a Kansas City hotel for smoking in his room.

And I just ran into some EDM/Skrillex-style action, so he's apparently not all jazzy jazz, he'll also bring the electro-funk-drop-it stuff as well.
