Cults

Word.  This music is excellent.  I just listened to their 2013 album Static for the first time, and it is a highly cool combination of girl group harmonies over a blues-steeped rock/pop jam.  I would not be even a little bit surprised if Dan Auerbach had produced this album - it has that bluesy rock throwback feel that he has been laying down for the past few years.  The top hit off of that new album is called High Road:

That is a top-notch, dreamy little jam.  And if you think you've never heard of these two before, maybe you've heard Go Outside.  This one has, by far, the most listens for the band - 9.7 million on Spotify.  There are two videos for the song - the sorta-superstar Hollywood version and the disturbing news footage one.  First, the kinda disturding news footage one:

1.3 million on YouTube.  The video is a well-done photoshop, but sort of uncomfortable mashup of the two band members singing/playing in and among footage from the Jonestown Massacre cult people.

Next, the Hollywood version with Emma Roberts and Dave Franco:
Yeah, I like this band a lot.  Go listen to Static (Spotify: Cults: Static) and see what you think.  I definitely want to try to see them play at ACL.  They are apparently touring with Vampire Weekend right now - too bad they didn't open the show I saw last month!

update: after listening to the new album a bunch, you've got to listen to I Can Hardly Make You Mine.  This song is a jam.
