San Fermin

Pretty indie (called baroque pop by Wikipedia).  "San Fermin" is the name of the July celebration in Pamplona that includes the annual running of the bulls.  But this band is an American guy named Ellis Ludwig-Leone who composes the music and sings some, along with several other vocalists and instrumentalists.  My favs are the ones sung with the ladies from Lucius.  Their voices still kick ass.  The band's website says they are an eight-piece from Brooklyn. The first album, 2013's San Fermin, includes one song with almost 4 million hits on Spotify, called "Sonsick"

I've read through the lyrics for that song a few times, and watched that video, and have no clue what is going on.  "Sonsick" at T-ball games?  Summer kind of sickness?  I recall being sick of watching sons at t-ball games, but not sure what that turn of phrase is supposed to mean.  I'd have guessed it was a love song from the last line about falling for you because I've resolved to love, but not too sure. Anyway, nice sound though.

Their 2015 album is called "Jackrabbit," and the opening song is called "The Woods."  It is some weird stuff about being buried in the mud and mouth full of dirt and pulling legs off salamanders. Sounds like The National if they added a sax to their sad sound.  Definitely sounds dark and brooding like The National.  Check out "Woman in Red" and see if you don't agree.  They also pump up some in some of the tracks to be a little more lively, which I like quite a bit better.  Here is the title track, "Jackrabbit"
Some of these songs have tunefulness and fun (like "Emily" or "Jackrabbit") and then others just sound like a dirge.  It is very full music - sounds like the guy who runs the show is trying to make something for everyone to do.  For example, check "Philosopher," which reminds me of the parts of the Muppet show when Dr. Teeth's band just blats out notes for no reason.  I'm not that struck by this band - its not bad by any stretch of the mind, but also not all that terribly interesting.  Likely skipping them.
