Topaz Jones

One Liner: Pretty solid rapper over funky beats
Wikipedia Genre: No Wikipedia, rap and R&B.
Home: New Jersey

Poster Position: 20
Day: Friday at 11:15 (brutal time slot)
Weekend One Only.

Thoughts:  Interesting.  When you see that band name, what do you think you are about to get?  I'm imagining like, Grace Jones singing torch songs.  Instead, this is a dude, and he's a rapper.  Only one album, 2016's Arcade, and then a 2018 single (perhaps teasing a new album).  The album is Outkast-esque rap, the new single is more of a live-music thought piece rap.
I'll give you that new one first, this is "Black and White," which has 119k streams so far after an April 2018 release.
Tender, kind of a Thundercat vibe to me.  Or like one of those 90's R&B guys like D'Angelo.  Nice enough, kinda slow.

George David Brandon Jones is his full name (so kind of interesting where he came up with Topaz - am I the only one who gets a feminine vibe from the name?).  Grew up in New Jersey.  He just seems chill.  Like his photos and tunes make him seem like a cool guy to hand with.  I mean, the guy says his favorite thing to do is to just go to a park and lay on the grass and write rhymes.  That sounds amazing.

Then his most popular track is a bonus track from his album, "Tropicana (Bonus)," which boasts 6.4 million streams.
Kind of a weird video, to watch him just all by himself on the mic.  But pretty solid tune - great flow on the lyrics and pretty solid groove of a beat.  Short tune at just over 2 minutes, but fun stuff.

I'm gonna give you one more because I like the funkiness and soul influences on it, as well as the good flow again.  This is "Powerball," which has about 421k streams.
Got that guitar lick like a rock song, but then the "If you don't jump, how you gonna get down" chorus, which is like a good funk song.  I really like this guy's rap flow.  Thank God he isn't trying to act like the shit soundcloud guys.

I'm very unlikely to see him, because of the time slot, but he's pretty good.
