Thoughts: I just let this play for hours last Thursday. Entirely enjoyable, and a welcome respite from all the flipping R&B and pop. My thought about their vibe is like a cross between Jungle and Khrungabin. Funky, groovy, a little worldly, deeply cool sounding.
There is no Wikipedia for the group, but one member has his own. Michael Francis Gonzalez uses the stage name Mike Del Rio, and he is a musical artist and producer on his own (worked with all sorts - Eminem, Kylie Minogue, Selena Gomez, X-Tina), in a band called POWERS, and then in this band with a dude named Kosta Galanopoulos. Aha! Rio Kosta!
One album, 2025's Unicorn, and then a few remixes of the songs from that same disc. The remixes are pretty cool, the one I am listening to now ("It's Starting - Jaime Rosso Remix") just kind of takes the song off into a trippy spiral and spools it out into a vibe. I like these guys. Top track is "Ancients" with 5.3 million streams.
That sample at the start is apparently from a cassette recording of Kosta's father's Greek folk band from the 70's. Very cool, very chill. The bass line is tasty. Second-most streamed is the title track, "Unicorn," with 4.4 million streams.
The vocals sound like Cage the Elephant. Odd that this is listed as a duo and talked about as a duo, and there are obviously more dudes playing in those scenes of them jamming. But whatever, use as many dudes as you want, just keep the cool grooves rolling. I'd absolutely go watch this happen.
