Thoughts: More stinkin' R&B.  On the 10th line!  So, instead of writing another depressed screed in which I admit repeatedly that I know nothing about R&B, I give you Claude's version.

Background: Rochelle Jordan is a Jamaican-British singer born in High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire, England, on October 21, 1989, who moved to Canada at age 4 and was raised primarily around Toronto. Her sound blends alternative R&B, dance-pop, and house, and more broadly draws on hip-hop soul, the Missy Elliott/Timbaland collaborations with Aaliyah, deep house, drum'n'bass, and UK garage. She's cited that eclectic upbringing directly: her father, a drummer, introduced her to Northern soul, Jamaican reggae, and dancehall, while her older brother's collection exposed her to UK house, drum and bass, and garage. 

Jordan started out uploading R&B cover songs to YouTube at 16 after being inspired by Justin Bieber, and producer KLSH discovered her through those videos in 2009. They went on to release the mixtape Alien Phase in 2010, followed by Rojo (2011) and Pressure (2012), before her debut album 1021 arrived in 2014, written and recorded in her bedroom after she'd moved to Los Angeles. After a seven-year hiatus, she returned with her second album, Play with the Changes, in April 2021, then a third album, Through the Wall, in September 2025.

Interesting details:

• She has toured with Jessie Ware and provided background vocals for Childish Gambino's "Telegraph Ave." on his Grammy-nominated Because the Internet.
• Her single "Follow Me" hit No. 1 on Billboard's Next Big Sound chart in early 2014, and her track "Losing" from Pressure was later sampled by rapper IamSu! on a song of the same name.
• She's also lent her voice to Adult Swim's Black Dynamite, voicing Cindy in the episode "How Honeybee Got Her Groove Back."
• She's dealt with sickle cell anemia since early childhood, something she's spoken about as shaping her resilience as an artist.
